Writing books is easy. Writing letters about yourself is a lot harder, but I’ll give this a shot.
Growing up, I was an avid reader. The first “big boy” novel I ever picked up was John Grisham’s The Client — I was in fifth grade. From that point on, I couldn’t get enough. Grisham, Crichton, and Koontz became my favorite authors because, well, they were my mom’s favorite authors. When she’d finish a book, she’d hand it right off to me.
I was twelve years old when my mom died. I started writing as an outlet. I had met a friend online who was building a website and wanted some new material. I started writing chapter at a time, each morning printing out what I had done the night before and leaving it for my dad to read. At the age of 13, I sent it to one agent and received my first rejection notice. I stopped writing after that.
In 2008, I picked up my first Vince Flynn novel on a deployment to Iraq. From that point on, I was hooked. The girl I was dating at the time started working on a book, so I did the same because it seemed fun. The rest is history.
Since publishing my first book in 2013, I’ve written seven novels. I wrote an author’s note in my first book that I was writing fiction because I didn’t think my life was heroic or interesting enough to warrant an autobiography, but I wanted to share some of what I knew as a fighter pilot. So I created a fictional character and went to work.
I’ve tried to stick to that theme – write what you know. Although my first book was a little technical, I’ve always tried to maintain a level of realism in my writing. I’ve been a fighter pilot, a cop, a Krav Maga instructor, an airline pilot, and an EMT, and I wanted to make sure what I wrote was at least credible.
Absolute Vengeance: The Alex Shepherd Story is my first novel outside of The Spectre Series. I used my experiences as a reserve deputy with the local sheriff’s office to craft the story of a horrific terror attack from the perspective of a deputy personally affected. I dedicated this book to the men and women of that agency, because I wanted to bring to light their professionalism and the sacrifices they make on a daily basis to keep our community safe.
It’s been a pleasure and an honor to get to know my readers. Please feel free to reach out on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or through my website. I enjoy talking about these books with readers as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
Thanks for reading!
About ABSOLUTE VENGEANCE: THE ALEX SHEPHERD STORY
On the first day of school in a New Orleans suburb, terrorists hijack a school bus full of children. Corporal Alex Shepherd, decorated Sheriff’s Deputy and SWAT sniper, is critically injured trying to stop the attack and save his wife and daughter.
Waking from a month-long coma, Shepherd finds his girls are gone and the world has moved on. With no arrests made, his frustration at the system’s failures forces him to take matters into his own hands.
His thirst for vengeance leads him from New Orleans to the brutal battlefields of Syria, where he gains fame as a ruthless sniper. ISIS targets him, wanting his death to be a gruesome propaganda display. But as the bodies stack up, Shepherd learns there’s no compromise in the war against evil.
With nothing left to lose, he must confront the people responsible for the murder of his wife and daughter...or die trying.
