About three years ago, I received a text from my husband with a scene from one of my many never ending novels with a message that read: look what I stumbled upon.
Although I was miles away from him at the time, I was embarrassed and felt exposed because my books were pieces of me I wasn’t ready to share. As if he was able to feel my self-consciousness, a few minutes later, another text followed with the following words: let’s finish this and get it published.
The rest as we say is history.
Two years later, I’ve published three novels and a novella, all part of the Martha’s Way series. I absolutely love this series. For one, the location is one of my favorite places in the world—Martha’s Vineyard. Second, each novel deals with an issue anyone of us can identify with, such as self-acceptance, unrequited love, family, and second chances.
As you will discover I enjoy exploring the dynamics between siblings, fathers, mothers, and friends. I grew up in a large family, five brothers to be exact, and countless cousins. Yes, I was outnumbered, then had two sons and continued to be in the minority. It was either like them, appreciate them, and do my best to understand them, or run screaming. So I became a tomboy.
Writing a series that consist of three brothers was always something I wanted to do, a dedication to my brothers, and now my own happy chaos. In Need You Now (Book 2 of the Martha’s Way series), we met Lily Serrano’s three older brothers—Rafael, Zander, and Maximus. In the Poison and Wine series, we get their stories. We know they are from a tight-knit family. We also know Rafa is a widower. Zander is a Navy SEAL, and Max is the playboy photographer. Through it all, the Serrano brothers are alpha men who’ll do anything to protect those they love.
In Somewhere to Begin, Zander’s story, he returns home after years of combat. As he adjusts to his new life as a civilian enters Colbie Bennington, a runaway bride with her own baggage. Initially, I aimed to write something fun and light, but as one of my beta readers kindly pointed out…my writing style is gritty with a heavy dose of sensuality.
Every book is an experience. I fall in love with my characters, cry with them, and laugh with them.
I hope you come along this crazy journey with me.
Mika Jolie is the bestselling author of the Martha’s Way series. She lives in New Jersey with her Happy Chaos—her husband and their energizer bunnies. A sports fanatic and a wine aficionado, she’s determined to balance it all and still write about life experiences and matters of the heart. Let’s face it, people are complicated and love can be messy. When she’s not weaving life and romance into evocative tales, you can find her on a hiking adventure, apple picking, or whatever her three men can conjure up.
She loves to hear from readers.

There are wounds that never show on the body.
For twenty-nine years, Colbie Bennington does as expected with an eternal smile stained on her lips. The biggest chances she’s ever taken can be counted on one hand, three fingers to be exact—her battered red chucks, painting her toenails a vibrant blue, and her wedding dress. Always the dutiful daughter and a Stepford fiancée, she has never acted on impulse, never been in love.
She’s never lived.
On her wedding day, Colbie ends a toxic relationship, drops the fake smile, and says, “I can’t do this anymore.”
Navy SEAL Zander Serrano returns home broken and burdened with a volcano of remorse. Too trapped in a mental war to be at peace and too damaged to be at war, he shuts the world out. The last thing he expects is to feel, especially for a runaway bride with her own baggage.
Two empty hearts marred in different spots find themselves drawn to one another. Each with their own scars. Some, the world can see. Others, unseen to the naked eye.
They say two broken people should not be together. But for Colbie and Zander, their attraction is undeniable, unexpected.
Can two souls with fractured parts be the best cure for each other’s wounds?
Starting over is never easy, but sometimes in life, everyone needs somewhere to begin.
