I’m so excited to be here with you. Yeah, I know, it’s only in the virtual sense, but still. To say my writing and publishing journey thus far has been unique would be an understatement. November 2016 marked my fifth year as a romance writer and my third year as a published romance author. However, my path from there to here wasn’t a nice smooth highway. At times, it’s felt more like that scene in 127 Hours. You know the one, where James Franco has been trapped between those rocks with time dwindling, so he takes that pocket knife and… Well, you know the rest.
In November of 2011 I had a dream. One that refused to leave until I wrote it down. So, I wrote, and I wrote, and I wrote. At night, on the weekends, whenever I could. I wrote so much that I finished the first draft in one month at a whopping 110,000 words. Then, I revised, and revised, and revised, until June of 2012 when I hit Submit.
In October of 2012, that book sold and became the first novel in my Seven Seals series. Things were marvelous, superb. I had a release date of January 2013 and the publisher contracted the second book in the series as well. I also started an MFA program in Writing Popular Fiction. It was only blue skies ahead, right? Wrong.
A week after my first book released, my mom was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. She’d moved in with me a few years prior, so I became her primary caretaker. Suddenly, all the time I’d had available for writing was now filled with doctor’s appointments and chemo treatments and prescription medicines that cost more than my car. My mom passed away in June 2013, one month after my second book released.
For a long time after that, I fell into a creative funk. The third book in the series was done, but I couldn’t bring myself to submit it through regular channels, so I eventually delved into self-publishing. Then, I just couldn’t seem to find the right words or project anymore. Every time I’d start something, those black crows of doubt came swarming. Insert lots of failed attempts and false starts. I feared my life as a writer and author was over.
Then, in November 2015 new inspiration occurred. What if there was an alternate reality, a world populated by humans and otherworlders who co-existed in a not-so-certain peace? And what if this world had a cool wild west vibe, where outlaws ruled and misfits banded together to save themselves from their evil overlords? And what if these rugged, alpha, emotionally damaged men found their fated mates when they least expected it and fell in love despite all the obstacles? These are the kinds of romances I love—where there seems to be no hope left, yet the characters persevere until they find their own unique happy ending. My new Blood Ravagers series was born.
Books One and Two in the series---Blood Bound and Blood Freed—released in October 2016 and January 2017, respectively. Each book is a standalone story with an HEA, though there is an overall series arc and many characters reappear in each story. They can be read in any order. Blood Vowed is book three in the series and I’m so excited to share Rev and Claire’s journey with you.
Their rocky road to love and happiness is difficult, but sweet—signifying a new beginning for them.
And a new beginning for me too, on my twisty writer’s journey. I hope you enjoy Blood Vowed, and I’m so grateful and honored to share it with you. Thanks for reading!
Reverend “Rev” Walker, expected some backlash after he foiled The Council’s attempts to overthrow the Blood Ravager Biker Gang. What he hadn’t expected was to wake up in the last place he ever wanted to see again—a dank cell of The Council’s Siberian dungeon. Drained and chained, he faces certain death if he can’t escape from the hellish prison. Now, his only means of escape depends on him accepting help from a fellow prisoner, a woman whose very existence is a lie and the only one capable of awakening Rev’s long-dormant heart.
Claire Deveraux is Dygarian, a race of shadow-shifters who have been slandered and hunted to extinction by The Council. But Claire has used her years of enslavement well, reading her captors’ secret texts and hearing their whispered secrets. Now, after being locked up for a crime she didn’t commit, she plans to use her knowledge of the dungeon’s maze-like interior to gain her freedom, or die trying. Then a new prisoner arrives, a man Claire has dreamed of and knows in her heart is her destined mate, if only she can break through his walls.
On the run and threatened from all sides, will Rev and Claire learn to trust each other and their growing feelings for one another before it’s too late?
Blood Vowed will be out April 13,2017
