Twenty years as a journalist couldn't stifle the yarns. Yacht delivery up and down the Caribbean only increased the flow. Now those tales celebrate romance on the high seas.
I am a professional captain living in the Rocky Mountains, just about 15 minutes from the Continental Divide. I spent the last 12 summers teaching sailing on awesome Lake Dillon at 9,017 feet in Summit County, Colorado. I also captained tours for my business, Sails in the Sunset.

I’ve done a bazillion things to earn a living over the years. I’m semi-retired now and focus on my writing and self-publishing ventures. But, for the curious, here's a smidgeon of what I've done:
- Newspaper photographer, writer and editor in Ohio – 25 years;
- Owner of electronic publishing and PR firm - 9 years in Ohio
- Prepress Manager/Consultant to commercial printers in Canada and the US – approx. 10 years – did everything from calibration of digital presses to conversions of traditional stripping operations to totally digital workflows
- First mate on deliveries of sailing yachts, mostly out of Charleston, SC, up and down the Caribbean – 3 years – 20,000 miles at sea
- Ski Patroller at Copper Mountain, Colorado – 7 years
- Sunset Sailing Tour business on Lake Dillon, CO – 12 years. Fun fact: Lake Dillon is listed in a book, "50 Top Places to Sail before You Die".
- ASA Sailing instructor and USCG certified captain – still current
- Still volunteer as an auxiliary safety patroller at Copper Mountain
And this is my baby girl – Into Thin Air. In this photo, she was trying to escape and sail off without me on Lake Dillon. Now she has a new family in Provo, Utah at Bonneville Sailing School (http://www.bonnevillesailing.com).
As for me, I have a new venture – Muirgen Publishing, LLC. Muirgen is a first century Irish Catholic saint … and a mermaid! Read more about her here (http://omniumsanctorumhiberniae.blogspot.com/2013/01/muirgen-mermaid-saint-january-27.html).
In my seven-year quest to be published, I’ve learned a lot of things, my writing projects have won a number of awards, and I’ve met a lot of great fellow writers. The most important thing I’ve discovered? It’s time to let my stories go. And there are lots of them – in all different genres and time periods. But each one has a connection to the sea.
Soooo, over the next five years I’ll be releasing three to four works each year. Keep checking back for new titles, or sign up for my newsletter (link). I promise only one for each new release. But each edition will be full of special insights, excerpts, chances to appear as a character in one of my stories J, and answers to questions I hear all the time from hopeful, aspiring writers. Oh, and did I say advance notice on special deals and prizes?
About FORTUNES HORIZON:
When I first began thinking about what I wanted on the covers of my high seas historical romance series, I looked at the stock art available and wanted something more.
I’ve spent a good number of years working with ski patrollers, and they’re all heroes. They risk their lives on a daily basis so that skiers from all over the country can safely enjoy the fantastic Colorado ski experience.
The fantastic cover designer, Kim Killion, agreed to help. After a professional photographer and I staged close-ups of the models, Kim fit them into the covers with period appropriate gear.
A percent of sales from this series of books will go to the models’ favorite charities that support snow country rescue professionals.
She risks everything to deliver gold to the Confederacy.
Lillie Coulbourne marks time in Paris while the Civil War rages back home. While translating dispatches from the Confederacy for the French Finance Ministry, she accepts a spy mission through the Union blockade. When the captain of the only blockade runner headed back to a Southern port won’t deal with women, or spies, she sneaks aboard as his cabin boy.
He refuses to risk his ship, or his heart.
Blockade runner Captain Jack Roberts has never been caught and he’s not about to let a spoiled American heiress ruin his perfect record. After he discovers her deception, he fails miserably at keeping her at arm’s length and vows to send her packing on the first mail ship back to England.
When she surprises him with her skill as a seaman and navigator, he grudgingly allows her to finish the run. But ultimately, he has to choose what is closer to his heart – Lillie or his ship.
