I have always been a writer, but it took me a long time to figure out what kind of stories I loved to tell best. When it comes to ideas, I’m a magpie. Certain character types and plot elements and tropes are especially shiny to me, and I collect them. They come from all sorts of media: books, TV shows, movies, whatever. When I start putting a new book together, I sift through them (consciously or unconsciously) and pull out the ones I want.
For my new book, AS LOST AS I GET, we’ve got a sexy CIA agent on a vital mission and a gorgeous doctor with a troubled past, both trying to make the world a better place. Readers of my first book, THE FARTHER I FALL, will recognize Lee Wheeler, the strait-laced older (by four minutes!) twin of rock star Lucas Wheeler.
When I was working on FARTHER, I knew I wanted Lucas to have a protective older brother. As I started writing though, I thought about how much more fun it would be to have the book’s heroine, Gwen (herself a military veteran), confronted with twins: two very sexy dark-haired, blue-eyed hunks who share a face and not much else. So I started working on Lee, making him as different from Lucas, the rock star recovering addict, as I could.
I love alpha males. And I really love military alpha males. I know, me and everybody else, right? Writing Gwen convinced me that I love alpha females too! I knew Lee needed to speak the same language she did, so that together they could unravel the mystery of Lucas’s stalker, and work to keep him safe.
By the time I was finished with the book, I knew I had to tell Lee’s story. Who was this man with his mysterious phone calls to Gwen and his unnervingly useful resources? And what sort of woman would win his heart?
In looking at Lee’s future, first I had to go into his past. As a clandestine CIA operative, Lee’s gotten used to bending a few regulations when necessary, but until he met Zoe Rodriguez, he’d managed to keep his heart strictly by the book. When he was sent on a mission to rescue an American doctor from kidnappers in Mexico, he knew she was beautiful from her photos, but he didn’t expect her to have such a courageous heart as well.
That was two years ago, and neither of them forgot the other.
Zoe, mostly recovered from her ordeal, is back in the field, working at a free clinic in rural Colombia. When a local terrorist group threatens everything she believes in, it’s as if Zoe’s past will never stop haunting her. The last man she expects to see in such a remote corner of the world is the only man who can make her feel safe: Lee Wheeler.
Safety and passion don’t mix well, but neither of them can deny the heat that’s been growing between them since their first meeting.
When Zoe becomes the terrorists’ new target, Lee’s going to have to do a lot more than bend a few rules and make a few phone calls. It will take all of his training and skill, and all of Zoe’s bravery and intelligence, to keep them alive. From one unforgettable night in Lee’s room, through the equally steamy Colombian rain forest on the run from some of the country’s most dangerous men, will Zoe remember how to trust Lee? And will Lee convince her let down her walls?
I can’t wait for you to meet Zoe and Lee and all their coworkers and friends. I hope a summer trip to Colombia is exactly what you’re looking for!
Thanks for reading!
From the author of The Farther I Fall comes an action-filled romance in which two lovers discover that the best thing about being lost is having someone find you…
CIA operative Lee Wheeler is glad to be back in the field, even if the assignment is at a backwater station in Colombia—what he considers punishment for crossing lines in an attempt to save his brother’s life. Either way, he’s ready for action. But he never could have predicted the action he’s about to get…
Doctor Zoe Rodriguez is in charge of a clinic in a tiny town on the edge of the rain forest. She’s still dealing with a traumatic experience she had in Mexico—a trauma she wouldn’t have survived if it weren’t for Lee. So when they unexpectedly cross paths again, unresolved wounds rise to the surface, and their mutual passion flares to life.
But when a new threat reveals itself, Lee and Zoe’s reunion takes on echoes of the past that may ruin their chance for a future.
