Hi! I’m Tonya Burrows. You may know me from my HORNET romantic suspense books, or maybe from my sexy Wilde Security series. I have loved romantic suspense since I picked up my first Iris Johansen novel, but I also have a big soft spot in my heart for the paranormal. I think it started when I was in elementary school. I remember checking a book out of the library about ghost sightings and there was this one picture of an apparition walking down the stairs that both terrified and fascinated me.
Fast-forward twenty years. I was working overnights at a nursing home that we were all sure was haunted. We’d hear babies crying and the organ in the dining room playing. We’d see shadows move out of the corners of our eyes and the elevator never stopped returning to our floor even though nobody pressed the button to call it. One nurse even quit because she had her cart move down the hall on its own! All the weirdness renewed my interests in ghosts and, during those long nights at work, I started plotting out a romantic suspense about a haunted lighthouse. That plot eventually became my upcoming release, Vision of Darkness.
Every author has that one book they consider their baby, and for me, it’s Vision of Darkness. I spent four and a half years working on it until I realized I had to set it aside and pursue another story. It wasn’t an easy decision to make and I never forgot Alex and Pru—their story was just shoved to the way back burner, as I had to focus on the books I had contracts for. Then this summer, I went to lunch with a fellow author at the RWA national conference, and we started discussing the manuscripts we had sitting, unpublished, on our computers. She was so intrigued by the plot of Vision of Darkness, she told me I should self-publish it. Now, self-publishing has always kind of frightened me—I like having the security of a publisher behind me—so I decided I needed to jump in with both feet and do it. And that’s how I ended up here!
So far, this self-publishing thing’s been a thrilling, nerve-wracking rollercoaster ride, but Barclay Publicity has been amazing throughout it all. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for Alex and Pru and the rest of the D.I.E. Squadron characters!
Coming Dec 1st - VISION OF DARKNESS (D.I.E. Squadron #1)
Undercover DEA agent Alex Brennan doesn’t believe in the paranormal, despite the exhausting nightmares that reveal things he shouldn’t know. When sleep deprivation causes him to make a horrible mistake on the job, he is driven to find answers. Dreams guide him to a lighthouse in Three Churches, Maine, where he finds an inexplicable and comforting familiarity in the arms of the lighthouse’s beautiful keeper, Pru Maddox.
A whisper of memory…
Deadly misfortune has long plagued Pru’s family, the result of a curse “The Green Lady” placed on the lighthouse. Skeptical, Alex searches for less ghostly explanations, though he can’t deny that the town has had more than its fair share of disappearances, suicides, and accidents. As their passion simmers, Alex digs deeper, and his dreams turn violent, frightening, and very real.
A vision of darkness...
To keep Pru safe, Alex must embrace his abilities and unravel the lighthouse’s mystery. Except someone—or something—wants the past to stay buried...and will do anything to keep it that way.
