Like most parents, working full time and raising a family left little time for myself. Time away from work was spent on family activities.
Once the kids were grown I found myself with some spare time. Instead of knitting I sat down at the key board and my fingers took on a life of their own. To some it sounds nuts, but writing relaxes me. Combine that with get-aways to our little cottage on the lake…and I am in heaven. Perched in my hammock, I write with a view of the lake as the hummingbirds dive-bomb each other over the feeder I strategically placed above my hammock. More than one of my cottage neighbors have joked about my ‘napping’ eight hours straight in my haven but to me, it is the most perfect writing office.
My husband, and real life hero, actually coined my favorite line in the book and it’s been my mantra for decades. Kiss life in the face! As we all know, life is precious and too short. Celebrate, be spontaneous, laugh, wear crazy wild socks, do something outside the box, challenge yourself. I’ve told my son and daughter numerous times while they were growing up…if it’s not illegal and you’re not hurting anyone…go for it! Kiss life in the face!

Over the years I encountered numerous memorable patients but there was one that always stood out in my mind. Montana Wild was inspired by the spirit of a real patient that touched my life and my heart. However, the rest of the tale is fiction.
Jamie is a spirited young woman that makes some uncharacteristically spontaneous choices once she decides to follow Kevin’s advice and Kiss Life in the Face. Realizing that if you want to make changes in your life, you can’t be a passive onlooker…you have to go after what you want.
I think writing my first book is like having my first child. I was unsure of my writing…I knew it needed continued nurturing and I was making mistakes. When I finally decided this was more than just a hobby, I got serious. I joined writing groups, studied successful authors, attended work shops and conferences, all to learn more about the craft of writing. Knowing I did my best but still scared, I decided to kiss life in the face and go for it. I submitted my manuscript for publication. With each rejection letter, I learned a little more and tweaked it again till the email finally came saying Soul Mate Publishing wanted it! I feel a bit over-protective of my debut novel, but just like your first child…it’s time for it to fly on its own. I hope your enjoy it!
